Fund raisers
Ceramic fingerprint art made by the kids is a great way to raise money for your child's school. We come to the school/daycare to get their fingerprints, you choose a theme, and we do all the artwork for you. The piece is then auctioned off to raise money for your organization.
Field Trips
We are happy to come to your child's daycare or school to paint ceramics. We will bring everything needed and help the kids make their very own masterpiece. If you would like to avoid the mess , bring the class to All About Crafts for a fun, affordable field trip.

— Pottery by U, a pottery painting studio in Magnolia, began as a scrapbooking studio in 2007. As customer demand for the memory preserving art form began to diminish, owner Sherry McKay noticed the studio’s clients were more interested in working with ceramics and paints.
“We had been offering ceramics, but it was limited to two tables,” McKay said. “We had to add tables and shelving dedicated to pottery. We no longer offer scrapbooking.”
McKay said she takes pride in the studio’s one-on-one customer interaction. Billed as the “paint-your-own pottery, anytime, studio,” McKay said her business is the only crafts facility of its kind in the Magnolia area that does not charge studio fees.
No appointment is needed to come into the studio, pick out a piece of pottery, select colors and create a masterpiece, according to McKay. When finished, Pottery by U staff will glaze and fire the piece to preserve the project’s paint job and have it ready for pick up in seven days. They recently began remodeling, including replacing flooring, to accommodate the messy art form.
The crafts store not only offers in-studio tables to work on projects, but McKay and her staff also host pottery painting birthday parties at the studio. Pottery by U also makes itself available for homeschoolers and assists with various Girl Scout groups to obtain art badges. The studio conducts summer art camps, teaching children ceramics, canvas painting and glass fusing.
“I’m very interested in helping kids learn more about art,” McKay said. “Kids are losing that by spending so much time in front of video games.Pottery by U provides a place for families to do things together—to laugh, paint and create memories.”
McKay’s 29-year-old son, Jason, is the art director for the studio. The self-taught ceramics artist said the art form is also a great way for children to help their schools raise money.
“We go out to day cares or schools to collect their fingerprints on a piece of ceramic,” he said. “We turn the fingerprints into images to match selected themes. The piece is then auctioned off to raise money.”
Ceramic art is not just for children, however. Pottery by U also offers an after hours program aimed at adults.
“We offer painting and wine,” Jason said. “The program is taught by a local art teacher who takes them step-by-step through the project. Adults were dropping off their kids for our Kids Night Out program and began asking, ‘What about us?’ They were looking for something to do and we listened.”
